Reflection Midterm portfolio

As a student in this English class I have learned to get out of the basic intro, body, and conclusion. Through this I have become a better writer. When the eight page paper was introduced I wondered how we would do it. When I got straight into it I couldn't get passed the second page with my research on the topic. Then I remembered we were to ask questions and get opinions of other people. I also remembered that I was able to put my own opinion into my writing. Something that was entirely taboo in high school writing. We were told to analyze questions like we analyze a picture. I was taught to look deep into everything that was asked of me, find the deeper meaning, the subliminal message, even think about something the asker couldn't even derive themselves. When going through these examples I have seen my writing improve dramatically. Even through my learnings I admit I have not applied them. When given comments on my writing I never took the time to edit my work so it could be complete. In not putting thought into my completes work I could not move forward into completing more complex projects such as my midterm portfolio. Entirely not paying attention to my work as a whole has left me slacking in everything that I have done. In all this class has definitely left me with many things I have learned and things I as a student must build upon. I am looking forward towards the remaining weeks of the semester.

The Real Street Fighter(Midterm Portfolio)

This video is another video of a real situation remixed with street fighter sounds. This is a remix video of a Street performer who kicked a baby during his show. Thought the video you can hear the traditional street fighter music and movement sounds. At the very moment of impact wit the dancers foot and the child you see the baby being kicked while listening to the screams from a character in the game and watching the baby flip in slow motion. This remix has brought a community of together. It has brought a community of people who like watching parodies. Many people grew up playing street fighter, finding a video that takes an element of the game and using it to create a comedic video is truly laugh about. When you take a real life situation like a baby getting kicked in the face during a performance and adding a simple element to make it humors is using user generated content to its fullest. Many comments consists of the game characters and the baby getting "P0wned". I personally come into remixes all the time. When me and my friends are together, we remix songs with our own lyrics and put them on Facebook. Every time I am on Youtube I run into parodies which are remixes in themselves.

Zangief Kid vs The Rat (Midterm Portfolio)

This is a user generated video which twists a news story of a bully, beaten by the bullied. Chose this video because I find it hilarious.This video is effective because it has a twist on how people see bullying. Most people see bullying as a child being attacked and hurt mentally, physically or both. This is ineffective due to the fact it strays away from the point of the story and changing it into a complete comedy. In changing it into comedy the essence of the video was entirely changed. When I watched the original video I got a feeling of bravery. I felt the boy's anger when he attacked back. In this video, due to the street fighter sound effects, you just cant wait to see who wins the fight. I can't imagine this video on regular television. If it were on T.V. they would probably try extend it for longer than it needs to be. If it would be made into a television series it would be surrounded by a bullied kid, fed up with is attackers and fighting back. In doing so leaving a great video with a horrible spin off. Media is not comfortable with just a one hit wonder.
